What good is Halo 3 if you can't shoot down your Covenant enemies? In a few simple steps, you can become an expert on using guns in all modes of the Halo 3 first-person shooter for XBox 360.

      Choose your weapon. You will start with two default weapons, which will vary depending on the game mode. To cycle through these weapons, use the yellow "Y" button on your XBox 360 controller.

      Fire! Once you have selected your weapon, use the right trigger, "RT," to fire at your enemies. You can aim with the right joystick, or "R." When you're out of ammunition, you can reload your weapon with the right block button, "RB." You can pick up new ammunition by simply walking over a weapon on the ground that you already hold in your inventory.

      Pick up new guns. Guns you find on the ground can be your for the taking. When you walk over a gun, you can use the "RB" button to pick that gun up and replace a weapon you already hold. Cycle through your current weapons with the "Y" button a replace your weakest gun, or a gun that lacks ammo, with one you come across during gameplay.

      Use two guns at once. Certain guns, such as the handgun and the mauler, can be dual-wielded. Use the left block button, "LB," to pick up a dual-wield enabled gun and the left trigger, "LT," to fire that new gun. While you hold two guns, you will be unable to throw grenades. Drop your left-handed gun by cycling to a rifle or other single-wield weapon, or by picking up a new single-wield weapon from the ground.

      Use your gun without ammo. Using the red "B" button, you can swing your gun as a melee weapon. While this will require you to fight at a close range, you can kill your enemies in this fashion if you sneak up on them from behind.
