Things You'll Need:
- 2-by-4 piece of lumber
- Chop saw
- Drill
- Sandpaper
- Gloss enamel paint
- Paintbrush
- Narrow wooden dowel, 6-inch length
- Clear varnish
- Wood glue
- 18-inch piece of heavy cord (for each ring)
- Wooden bead (for each ring)
-
Step 1
Cut the piece of 2 by 4 into a 4-inch square, using a chop saw. The length of 2 by 4 you buy will be determined by how many pegs you intend to make for your game.
-
Step 2
Drill a hole in the center of the 4-inch square, large enough for one end of the peg to fit into.
-
Step 3
Sand the exterior of the 4-inch square piece of wood to remove any rough edges. Sand the ends of the dowel to round the edges.
-
Step 4
Paint the exterior of the wood square with gloss enamel and allow it to dry. If necessary, give it a second coat of paint.
-
Step 5
Coat the dowel with clear varnish, and allow it to dry.
-
Step 6
Apply glue to the inside of the drilled hole. Insert one end of the dowel into the hole, and push in until it's flush on one side and sticks out the other side. Allow the glue to dry.
-
Step 7
Repeat Steps 1 through 6 to make additional free-standing pegs.
-
Step 8
Thread the bead onto the cord. The hole in the bead should be just large enough for the cord to slip through and be snug.
-
Step 9
Glue one end of the cord to the other end of the cord. Slip the bead over the glue area to hide the junction. Apply more glue and allow it to dry.
-
Step 10
Repeat Steps 7 and 8 for each additional ring you make.
