How to Use a Shoe Horn

If you wear dress shoes regularly, it is recommended that you use a shoe horn to assist in putting your shoes on because this will protect the backs of your shoes from becoming prematurely worn and damaged. While shoe horns may seem old fashioned, common sense suggests that learning how to use a shoe horn would be a prudent and frugal step to take to increase the life of your dress shoes.

Things You'll Need

• Dress shoes
• Shoe horn

Instructions

1. Rest the wide blade of the shoe horn against the inside back of a dress shoe.

2. Place the front of your foot into the dress shoe. Place your heel against the inside of the shoe horn.

3. Push your heel firmly onto the shoe horn. While you are pushing your heel, rock the shoe horn forward slightly to help your foot slide into the shoe.

4. Take the shoe horn out of the dress shoe and tie your shoe comfortably.

5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 with the other shoe.
