A wobble board is a very simple piece of exercise equipment that is used to help develop and improve balance and core strength. Wobble boards are also used in physical rehabilitation to help people who have suffered a leg injury gently regain mobility in injured muscles. The wobble board consists of a flat surface with a narrower rocking base that allowing the board to tilt from side to side and front to back.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 24 inch circular piece of plywood
  • 8 to 10 inch circular piece of plywood
  • 8 to 10 inch plastic pipe end cap
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Heavy duty super glue
  • Paint or wood stain
  • Non-skid bathtub appliques
  • Table saw (optional)
  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of plywood into a circle 24 inches in diameter. This can be done using a home table saw or you can let the experts cut it for you at the store where you purchase your wood.

  2. Step 2

Attach the smaller circle of plywood to the center of the bottom of the wobble board's surface. The diameter of this piece should be the same diameter as the opening of your plastic end cap, between 8 to 10 inches. Attach using 2-inch nails and hammer over the tip of the nail where it comes out the bottom. They won't show when you are finished.

  3. Step 3

Glue the end cap to the smaller piece of wood. Put a layer of super glue around the edges of the small piece of wood. Place the end cap over the piece. The end cap should fit over the piece of wood snugly. Let the glue dry completely.

  4. Step 4

Paint or stain the wood surface. You can leave the wood in its natural state, but if you are going to be using it outside, you should at least stain it.

  5. Step 5

Add the nonskid surface. Wobble boards are made with a nonskid surface to keep you from sliding off. Get this same effect by using some regular nonskid bathtub appliques. Apply them to the surface where your feet will go.

Tips & Warnings
  • The wood has to be sturdy enough to hold your weight, so get plywood at least 3/4 inch thick.
