Rabbits are clean animals by nature. They are always grooming and taking care of their fur. However, when you have a pet rabbit, you will need to assist in the cleaning process. Cold air or water can cause the rabbit to go into shock. (Remember that rabbits can develop pneumonia easily.) Keeping your rabbit clean is a straightforward process.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft baby brush
  • Cloth
  • Towel
  1. Step 1

Clean out the cage once a week. You can clean the cage sooner, depending on the condition. If the cage is a mess within three or four days, clean it out. Rabbits need clean areas. The rabbit will use a corner of the cage as their litter box.

  2. Step 2

Keep the food and water supply free from debris or algae. Fresh food and water is a priority twice a day to keep rabbits clean and healthy.

  3. Step 3

Brush the rabbit. If bedding, food or other debris is in their fur, use a soft bristle brush. Hold the rabbit. Pet him and begin gently brushing. Take care to remove the debris but not to pull the fur. A rabbit is sensitive and pulling the fur can hurt them.

  4. Step 4

Use a cloth to wipe the rabbit. When the rabbit is a mess and cannot become clean, bathing may be the only option. Use warm water to get the cloth damp. Wring it out. Gently rub the cloth over the messy spot on the bunny. Only use the warm cloth on the spot. Do not bathe the whole rabbit. Use only warm water, never soap. Dry the rabbit off immediately.

Tips & Warnings
  • Only bathe the rabbit in extreme circumstances. If you must wash the rabbit, do so in the warmest part of the home. This is to prevent shock from the cold. Never use soap.
