How to Secure a Duvet Cover
A duvet or comforter can be transformed by a duvet cover, but if the comforter slips around and gets twisted inside the duvet cover it becomes an uncomfortable and unsightly mess. Secure your comforter inside the duvet cover and remove it and wash it when necessary. There is no need to create your duvet cover or comforter from scratch, new store-bought duvet covers and comforters can be altered.

1
Measure and cut four pieces of the 1/2 inch wide bias tape 12 inches long. Fold the pieces in half lengthwise and match the long edges. Iron the folded bias tape and pin. Top stitch the edges together.
-
2
Turned the previously made or store-bought duvet cover inside out. Fold a sewn bias tape strip in half matching the short ends. Place the folded end over an exposed seam on a corner of the duvet cover and pin. Top stitch across the fold of the sewn bias tape strip.

3
Sew back and forth several times to secure. Take care to only sew over the exposed inside seam. Repeat by sewing the remaining bias tape strips to the other corner seams on the duvet cover.
-
4
Place the comforter on your work surface with the back side up. Place a ring on the back of the comforter just below one corner. Hand sew the ring to the corner. When sewing the ring to the comforter, you are only connecting it, do not stitch all the way around the ring.
-
5
Use a thread color that will match the back of the comforter. Place the remaining rings on the back of the comforter. Just below the other three corners and attach in the same way. The rings on the back of the comforter will remain hidden when you no longer want to use the duvet cover.
-
6
Place the comforter on your work surface with the back side up again. Place the inside out duvet cover on top of the comforter and match the edges.
-
7
Thread one side of a sewn bias strip through a corresponding ring at a corner. Tie the ends of the bias strip in a secure bow and double knot. Repeat for the remaining three corners. Turn the duvet cover right side out with the comforter inside.
