This can be done in as little as seven days if you have the time and the patience to do it. 1. Plan for someone to be home with the puppy each day for one week.

2. Take the puppy outdoors first thing in the morning so that it can go to the bathroom. Don't fix your coffee first. The puppy needs to know that you will let it go to the bathroom right away or it won't be able to hold it in all night long.

3. Stay outside until the puppy goes to the bathroom. This could take a while at first. When the puppy goes, praise the puppy and give it a treat.

4. Take the puppy outside after each meal and after each nap. This is the natural time the puppy will have to go. Also, look for any times that the puppy seems like it might need to go to the bathroom.

5. Put the puppy's water bowl up on a counter before you go to bed at night. This will keep the puppy from having to go before you wake up in the morning.

6. Take the puppy outside right before you are going to turn in for the night. Remember that each time you take the puppy out you must stay out there until the puppy does its business. Then reward the puppy with praise and a treat.

7. Turn your back to your puppy if it has an accident. Don't give it any eye contact, and don't talk to it. This will let the puppy know that what it did displeased you. It won't like that feeling and won't do it again.
