Choose a simple design of your choice from clip art if you do not posses freehand drawing skills. Make sure that the size will be appropriate for display as well as small enough to paste on the inner surface of the wine glasses with the picture showing through for final painting. Make copies of your clip art design to match the number of wine glasses you wish to paint.

Visit any craft store and purchase a set of clear wine glasses. Alternatively, you may also check out any closeout store where you may find inexpensive wine glasses on sale. Make sure that the wine glasses you purchase are oven-safe, as this will be important when heating the wine glasses in an oven to dry, and set the paint firmly to them.
Also purchase paint in the colors that match the clipart design you've chosen, as well as paint brushes and transparent tape. Again, check whether the paint is suitable for use on glassware, will not chip when the wine glasses are washed, and can withstand heating in an oven. -

Cut carefully around the outline of the clip art design chosen using a sharp pair of scissors. Then, place the picture on the inner surface of the wine glass where you wish to hand-paint it. Make sure the picture faces out as it will act as a guide when you paint the wine glasses on the outside.
Now, use the transparent tape to paste the picture on the inside of each wine glass to keep it firmly in place. -

Select the appropriate paintbrush from the ones purchased and start painting the wine glasses on the outside. Follow the clip art design pasted on the inside as you go along. If your design has more than one color, finish painting one color before you proceed to the next. Some paints and colors may require application of more than one coat of paint, so act accordingly.

Remove the taped clip art design from the insides of each wine glass. Wipe the inside of each wine glass thoroughly with a moist cloth to remove any residue left over from the tape. Then keep the wine glasses aside to dry overnight.

Place your hand-painted wine glasses in an oven. Then set the oven to the temperature and time that may be specified on the label of the can of paint specially formulated for use on glassware. If not specified, consult the craft store where you purchased the wine glasses and paint for details. Heat the wine glasses accordingly.

Switch off the oven and allow the wine glasses to cool. Then remove them from the oven, and your very own hand-painted wine glasses will be ready for use.

Tips & Warnings
Hand-painted wine glasses make ideal, personalized gifts and souvenirs for weddings, birthdays, or any special occasion. In case you make a mistake while painting, dip a paper towel in paint thinner and wipe off the design while the paint is still wet. If the paint has dried, you may use a sharp knife or razor blade to scrape off the design and start anew.
