Designing a Basketball Uniform
-
1
Pick the type of fabric you want for the uniform. Some uniforms are made completely out of polyester, and they have that shiny appearance, but many professional sports teams have uniforms that are made out of thicker material that usually has multiple layers to help reduce the appearance of sweat on the outside of the jersey.
-
2
Pick the type of mesh. If you chose to go with something that is 100 percent polyester, you need to decide if you want it to be mesh or not--if there are little holes throughout the uniform. The size of the holes can vary depending on the type of mesh, so decide if you want the uniform to be mesh, and if you want the holes to be large or small.
-
3
Decide if you want to have paneling on the sides of the uniform or not. Paneling on the sides of the uniform usually gives it a more professional appearance. Once you decide that you want paneling on the sides, think about the kind of paneling--solid, striped or block--and think of the colors for the paneling (the panels do not have to all be the same color).
-
4
Choose the type of neckline you want for your uniform. There are many different types of necklines--v-neck or rounded--and the necklines can cross over at the bottom and/or they can be doubled.
-
5
Think about what you want written on the uniform. For instance, the team name can either be the school name or it can be the team mascot. One good way to do it is have the home jersey have the mascot name on it, and then have the away jersey have the school's name on it.
-
6
Select the colors for the uniform. This includes the colors for the overall uniform (home and away--if different), the colors of the panels, the numbers and the lettering. Most uniforms that are worn for games that are played at home are a lighter color overall, whereas uniforms that are worn when playing away games are a darker color overall.
-
7
Take any logo requirements into consideration. This is because some logos need to be a certain size and need to be placed in certain areas, which could alter the look of your jersey.

Tips & Warnings
The best way to design a uniform is to draw it out on paper and see how everything would be placed on the uniform. Another easy way to design a uniform is to use a website that has stock uniforms that can be personalized to your needs.
