How to Make a Horse Finger Puppet

Children delight at the idea of putting on, or watching, a puppet show. It doesn't have to be a big production. Even a one-person show that tells a good story is enough to entertain a small child. Making your own horse finger puppet is an easy and fun project that you can either do as a nice surprise for a child, or that you can do together.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather the needed materials. You will need to either find a piece of discarded fabric you can use from home or buy a small amount of fabric from a local fabric shop or large retailer. You should be able to find most of what you need at a local crafts store.

Create a pattern for your puppet. Measure the size of the finger of its user, keeping in mind that it's better to make the body of the puppet looser than too tight. You will need to decide how simple or how elaborate you want your horse finger puppet to be. For example, you can add legs that will dangle from your puppet or you can simply have a head, the body and a tail.

Cut out two pieces of fabric to serve as the body of your horse. You will now either need to sew your puppet by hand or use a sewing machine. Turn the fabric inside out and sew the two pieces together. If you intend to have legs, you will need to cut four long strips of fabric that will each be sewn together, leaving each individual strip open on one end for stuffing with cotton ball material. You may need to slightly pull apart the cotton ball material before you begin stuffing. Next, sew the legs on to the horse's body. Add felt for hooves.

Create the horse's head according to your pattern. Add ears, eyes, and nostrils using fabric glue. Stuff the head with cotton balls and sew it on to the body of you puppet. Sew on the elastic to hold the puppet to your finger.

Use fabric glue to attach your horse's mane and tail made from the hair. Allow enough time for the glue to dry before using.
