How to Frame a Mixed Media Collage
Oftentimes, the most beautiful art piece you may have is the most difficult to display. However, mixed media collages can be easier to frame than you might think. Follow these simple steps to prepare your collage for display, and preserve its beauty for years to come.
Things You'll Need
- Shadow box picture frame
- Acid-free self-adhesive photo mounting squares
- Measuring tape

1
Measure the mixed media collage the same way you would any flat photo or painting, and then measure how thick the thickest piece of mixed media is. Mark these measurements down.
-
2
Head to the local framing store, and choose a shadow box frame that will fit your collage without extra space, because a mixed media collage is not a good candidate for matting. Sometimes it is necessary to have them custom built.

3
Remove the cardboard backing of the shadow box frame, and lay it flat.
-
4
Using self-adhesive photo squares, join the collage to the cardboard backing, making sure to use enough squares to hold the weight of the collage so that it doesn't fall forward into the glass of the frame.
-
5
Replace the cardboard backing, with the collage attached, to the frame, and then secure it. If necessary, make any needed adjustments. Then hang your piece.
