Instructions

    • 1

Use the lighter to soften one of the ends of a plastic drinking straw.

    • 2

Pinch the sides of the softened bottom of the straw together and fold up to close and seal. Let cool completely before filling.

    • 3

In a bowl, combine the drink mix and the ½ cup sugar. Stir thoroughly.

    • 4

Add four or five drops of food coloring to the bowl if desired. Use three drops of blue and two of yellow to make green. Three red and two yellow make orange, and three blue and two red make purple. Let the food coloring dry in the sugar mixture at least thirty minutes before packing the straws.

    • 5

Place the tip of the funnel into the open end of a straw.

    • 6

Spoon the sandy candy into the funnel until it fills the straw completely. The amount you add will depend on the size of the straw you used. Leave a ½-inch space at the top of the straw.

    • 7

Continue to add the rest of the sandy candy to the remaining straws.

    • 8

Use the lighter to soften the open end of the candy straw, and pinch it closed to seal.

    • 9

Open the sandy candy straws with scissors, and pour into your mouth.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can make several bowls of sandy candy each with a different flavor of drink mix and a different color. Add these in layers into a clear jar or into the straws.

  • Do not let children use the lighter to melt the ends of the plastic drinking straws.
