How to Decorate a Cookie Birthday Cake
You could order a cookie cake at the mall, but those can be expensive, and in most cases, you can only get one in chocolate chip. Making and decorating your own cookie birthday cake is easy, and it all starts with refrigerated cookie dough and a couple of cans of store bought icing. This cookie birthday cake is entirely customizable. You can choose your favorite type of cookie and the colors and flavors of icing are up to you. Does this Spark an idea?

Remove the cookie cake from the oven and let cool in the pan until it reaches room temperature.

5
Combine three or four drops of food coloring with a white-colored icing and mix until the desired color has been achieved. Combine equal amounts of: red and blue for purple, red and yellow for orange and blue and yellow for green.

6
Repeat step five with the other cans of icing if you want more than one color.

7
Spread one can of icing over the entire top of the cookie cake. This is the base icing. Many stores that sell cookie cakes skip this step and only add icing writing. See tip.

8
Spoon a different color icing into the pastry bag fitted with a writing tip.
-
9
Squeeze the pastry bag and gently move it so that you write out Happy Birthday on the birthday cookie cake. See tip.

Remove the writing tip from the pastry bag and replace with other tips to make edging around the cookie cake or decorative features such as flowers. This is optional and best suited for those comfortable with using a pastry bag.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to color the icing you will use on the cookie cake, you need to choose a white icing such as vanilla, cream cheese, butter cream or coconut. You will not be able to color chocolate icing. If you use chocolate chip cookie dough, you might not want to put icing over the entire cookie cake since it could be too sweet. Practice writing in icing with the pastry bag on a paper plate before you apply the icing to the cookie cake.
Do not frost the cookie cake until it has completely cooled.
