How to Open a Padlock

Padlocks are great for keeping your things secure. You especially need them while in school, to protect your belongings while using a locker. Opening a padlock is easy, and once you've mastered opening yours, you'll be able to open any padlock so long as you have the combination. Practice opening your padlock a few times; once you get the hang of it, it's ready to use.

  1. How to Open a Combination Padlock

      With the lock firmly closed, turn the dial twice. This clears any previous numbers off of the lock and allows you to start anew.

      Starting at zero, turn the dial clockwise to the first number of your combination and then stop.

      Turn the dial counterclockwise towards the second number of your combination. Pass it once, and then stop on it when you come to it a second time.

      Turn the dial clockwise to the last number and stop.

      Firmly pull on the round part of the lock and it will seperate from the metal bars holding it closed.

    How to Open a Keyed Padlock

      Insert your key into the bottom of the padlock.

      Twist the key.

    • 8

      You can now pull your padlock open.
