How to Take Chantix Instructions

Chantix is a smoking cessation pill that is designed to help those addicted to nicotine to kick their smoking habit. It is available only by prescription, and if the doctor's instructions conflict with these, always follow your physician's advice. If you are in doubt, talk to your doctor about Chantix.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the day you will quit smoking. You will begin your Chantix treatments seven days before that date. Smoking during this week is still permitted.

    • 2

Take one white tablet for the first three days of the week before your quitting date. You should take it with a full glass of water and after eating.

    • 3

      Quit smoking on day seven.

    • 4

On days four through seven, take two white pills after a meal, with a full glass of water. Take one in the morning after breakfast, and the second after dinner at night.

    • 5

After your quit date, until your doctor determines that you no longer need Chantix, take 2 blue Chantix pills, one in the morning and one at night. Each time you take one, take it with a glass of water, after eating.

    • 6

Visit your doctor after taking Chantix for twelve weeks to determine if you need another prescription to help you to remain smoke free.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always follow your physician's instructions if they conflict with this guide. Your particular dose will depend upon many factors, including your body size, composition, and the level of your addiction to nicotine. Keep trying if you cannot quit the first time. It can take several attempts before successfully quitting smoking.

  • Call your doctor if you think that you have overdosed on Chantix. Call your doctor if the following side effects become severe or impede your lifestyle: nausea, mental problems, sleeping difficulty, vomiting, gas or constipation. If you develop any new mental problems, call your doctor immediately, especially if you experience any suicidal thoughts. These could include changes in behavior such as aggression, demeanor such as depression, and thoughts such as suicidal thoughts.
