Things You'll Need:
- White paper towel/napkin
- Seltzer water
- Talcum powder
- Cornstarch
-
Step 1
Dip the clean white towel or napkin in seltzer water and dab at the spot. Never rub it because rubbing only forces the stain deeper into the fabric. In addition, never pour seltzer water directly on the tie. Always apply the seltzer to the napkin and then dab the spot.
-
Step 2
If you didn't notice the stain on your tie right away and it has solidified, use the back of a knife to scrape the hardened food off the tie. Then try dabbing it with seltzer water.
-
Step 3
As soon as possible, after getting grease on tie, lay the tie out on a flat surface and sprinkle talcum powder or cornstarch on the spot. Allow the powder or cornstarch to absorb as much of the grease as it can.
You can let the tie stay like that for several hours. With clean white paper towel or cloth, gently brush off powder or cornstarch.
