Make PVC Candles

Making candles is a fun project. There are many different candle designs from the simple to the highly esoteric. Sometimes, just a regular candle is needed. Making candles with PVC pipe will make either tall thin candles or tower candles, depending on the size of PVC pipe you use. You will be surprised at how nice these candles look.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Candle wax
  • Candle wicks
  • Candle dye or coloring
  • Essential oil
  • PVC Pipe-3 to 4 inches in diameter and 7 inches long
  • PVC end cap to fit pipe
  • Piece of cardboard
  • Melting pot
  • Measuring cup or pour pot

    Directions

  1. Step 1

Place the end cap on the PVC pipe and set in the middle of a piece of cardboard to protect surfaces.

  2. Step 2

Place the wick into the PVC pipe and set aside for the moment.

  3. Step 3

Melt the wax in the melting pot on the stove according to package directions.

  4. Step 4

Add the candle dye a little at a time until desired color is achieved. Also add about 25 drops of essential oil of desired aroma.

  5. Step 5

Holding the wick in the center of the PVC pipe, slowly pour the melted wax into the PVC pipe to just under the pipe opening. Let harden completely.

  6. Step 6

When the candle has cooled, remove the end cap on the PVC pipe and push the candle out.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create different sizes and heights of candles to make a centerpiece. Make tapered candles without the taper. Mix different essential oils for different aromas.
  • Avoid burns. Candle wax is hot.
