Things You'll Need:
- Protection for work surface
- Knit or woven boxers
- Stencil (purchased or homemade)
- Masking tape
- Square of heavy cardboard
- Fabric paint
- Styrofoam or paper plate
- Stencil brush or small paint brush
-
Step 1
Choose your monogram stencil. Look for a large single letter, approximately 2 to 3 inches high, that is easy to read. You can also create your own stencil with your computer. Print a large initial in the font of your choice on card stock or overhead transparency material. Cut out the black printed part with an X-acto knife or sharp scissors and discard it, leaving a cutout of the letter.
-
Step 2
Cover your work surface with protective material, such as layers of newspaper. Lay boxers flat, front side up, with the elastic band at the top. Slip a square of heavy cardboard inside the leg to be monogrammed. This keeps paint from seeping through to the back of the boxers.
-
Step 3
Place your stencil on the leg you want to momogram and secure the edges with masking tape. Make sure the fabric is smooth beneath the stencil with no wrinkles.
-
Step 4
Squirt some fabric paint onto a disposable plate. Dip the stencil brush or paint brush into the paint and apply it to the boxers. Use a dabbing motion with a small amount of paint at a time until the open area of the stencil is covered.
-
Step 5
Carefully remove the stencil and allow paint to dry.
-
Step 6
Launder boxers according to the manufacturer's directions on the bottle of fabric paint. Some paints require ironing to fix the paint to the fabric.
