Instructions

    • 1

Remove only those pimples that appear to be filled with white or yellow liquid. Pimples that consist of red bumps cannot be popped and should instead be treated with acne medication on a daily basis, which will often dry the pimple up and remove any need for popping.

    • 2

Wash hands with an antibacterial soap before touching your face.

    • 3

Place an index finger of each side of the pimple and squeeze it between your fingers until it ruptures, releasing liquid.

    • 4

Use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to wipe up and remove the liquid.

    • 5

Dab a medicated acne cream or gel on the wound. Continue to do so two to three times a day until the wound dries up. In some cases, the pimple will regenerate, requiring another round of popping.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make acne treatment a preemptive part of your skincare routine by using a clarifying facial wash after you wake up and before bedtime. When showering, wash your body with a clarifying gel or scrub to prevent body acne. Your diet can have a big impact on your skin. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid greasy junk food such as French fries.

  • Popping pimples can leave permanent scarring and therefore is only recommended for pimples that do not go away on their own after 4 or 5 days. Consult a dermatologist if you have frequent acne that does not respond to over-the-counter treatments. The doctor will be able to offer advice and prescribe stronger medications.
