Step 1
Wash hair. As with any other style, make sure you wash hair, thoroughly rinse, and use a conditioner.
-
Step 2
Section the hair. Braid or plait hair while wet. Braids need not be in any particular style, allow hair to dry. So that hair does not become brittle and dry, you may want to spray a little oil sheen over plaits as they dry.
-
Step 3
Loosen hair. Next, loosen braids or plaits on the child's head; you will notice the hair loosens into a tight crimpy look. If you have chosen to use small curlers in the hair instead of braiding, once your remove curlers, the hair will tightly curl close to the scalp.
-
Step 4
Fluff it up. First, run fingers through your child's hair to loosen crinkles or curls. Apply some type of afro sheen at this point to soften hair. Massage scalp at this point.
-
Step 5
Pick it out. Use a nice sturdy afro pick, preferably one with rubber teeth ends. The rubber ends are easier on your child's scalp.
-
Step 6
Shape hair. Pick hair out to the desired height; gently start to pat hair down shaping it into a style that flatters your child's face. If the hair is void of shine, spray on a little more oil sheen to give hair a healthier look. Plait or braid hair before going to bed.
