If you suffer from anorexia, you may have trouble eating a healthy diet. You should get information from a registered dietician or your doctor about a healthy eating plan that fits your particular needs. In general, even if you did nothing all day but lay in bed, your body needs 980 calories to function (see "Resources" below). If you are also exercising, then you will need to eat even more calories, and these calories should come from healthy foods from the Food Pyramid.
Things You'll Need

Follow the meal plans and vitamin supplements suggested by your doctor. It is extremely important that you do not try to recover from anorexia on your own. You will need to start with small meals, maybe several a day, full of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, and dairy products. Your system will not be able to take too many calories in one meal, so you will probably need to eat small, bland meals at first every two to three hours or as recommended by your doctor.
Drink plenty of water each day. You will want to try to drink at least six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. If you drink these glasses of water with your small meals, it may be easier to keep track of the amount of water you drink and make sure that you get enough water.
Avoid eating foods full of sugar and empty calories. These are foods such as candy and soda. Instead of grabbing a chocolate bar for your mid-morning snack, consider eating an apple and a piece of cheese with a glass of water.
Eat foods that will build your muscle mass. When you are recovering from anorexia, you may feel tired and weak. If you eat foods such as fish and chicken or drink vegetable protein drinks, you will increase your muscle mass while eating healthy.
Ask your doctor or a registered dietician about some of the vitamins or herbs you can use to supplement your daily meals and gain your strength back as you recover from anorexia. Remember, it is important to let your doctor know if anything you are eating or taking is upsetting your system.
