Instructions

  1. Copying DVDs

    • 1

Download DVD ripping and burning software (see Resources) if you do not already have it. Ripping (transferring media to your computer from a disc) and burning (transferring media from your computer to a disc) are the two key steps in copying DVDs. After you have checked your downloads for virus, install the software.

    • 2

Insert the DVD into your computer's disc drive. Using your DVD ripping software, rip the DVD onto your drive. Be patient, since this can take several minutes, depending on the software and the length of the DVD.

    • 3

Remove the DVD from the drive after the burning process has been completed. Now insert a blank DVD into your disc drive. Close your ripping software and open your burning program. Then select the file you would like to burn. Begin the burn process, which can also take several minutes.

    • 4

Remove your new DVD from the disc drive after the burning process is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to label your new DVD so you know what it contains.

  • Many DVDs have been copyright protected, which makes this process more difficult. It is the responsibility of the user to follow all copyright laws, which in practice allow copying media for one's own use, but not for distribution or sale to another party.
