Things You'll Need:
- Contrasting or matching fabric for the ruffles
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Thread
- Measuring tape
- Iron
-
Step 1
Measure the end of your curtains. Multiply the measurement by 1.5. This will be the length of your ruffle fabric, which will create a moderate ruffle. For a more drastic ruffle effect, multiply the measurement by 2.
-
Step 2
Cut out a piece of fabric about 3.5 inches wide with a length of the measurement calculated in Step 1. This will make a ruffle about 3 inches wide.
-
Step 3
Fold down the bottom edge 1/4-inch and press. Fold down another 1/4-inch of the bottom edge. Press, pin and sew close to the edge. Do this for the top edge as well. This creates a hem for your strip.
-
Step 4
Set your machine at the longest stitch length. Create a line of stitching 5/8-inch from the top edge. Back stitch at one end. Do this again for a second line of stitching 1/4-inch away from the edge.
-
Step 5
Pull the two lines of gathering stitches until it is evenly ruffled and pinned around the entire curtain.
-
Step 6
Sew the ruffles down at a normal stitch length. Do this for the second curtain panel.
