The LimeWire peer-to-peer networking program can be used to share a wide variety of file types between users in vastly different physical locations. Unfortunately many of the files available on the LimeWire network are infected with malicious virus software. To protect your computer from a virus infection you can connect the AVG Anti-Virus program to the files you download from LimeWire.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Download the AVG Anti-Virus program (see Resources below). Click on the blue "Get It Now" button and then click on "Download" after the new page loads.

  2. Step 2

    Wait for a new window to pop up and then click on the "Save File" link. Open up the folder where your download files are saved and double click on the AVG installation file.

    Follow the instructions that will pop up on the screen to complete the AVG installation process.

    Navigate to the LimeWire website (see Resources below) to download LimeWire.

    Wait for a new window to pop up and click on "Save File." Double click on the installation file and then follow the installation instructions.

    Open the LimeWire program by double clicking on its desktop icon.

    Click on the type of file that you are searching for and then type in the name. Click on "Search" and wait for the search result to populate. Double click on the name of the file that you want to download.

    Navigate to the "C:\" drive on your computer and open the "Downloads" folder. Find the file that you downloaded from Limewire and right click on it.

    Click on the "Scan with AVG" option from the new menu that will appear. Wait for the AVG program to finish scanning the file for malicious programs. Then, either close the window that appears if there were no problems found or click on "Heal Infections" if a virus was discovered.
