Notebook computers like the T30 commonly come with small hard drives. So a common task for notebook owners is removing the stock hard drive to replace it with a new, larger one. The process, unlike when working with desktop computers, is quite simple.

From Quick Guide: Notebook Basics
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Clean rag
  1. Step 1

Close the screen on the T30 and turn the computer over.

  2. Step 2

Set the notebook on a clean, soft surface. Make sure that it is not in a position where it can become scratched.

  3. Step 3

Clean the bottom of the notebook thoroughly with a clean rag. Do this to make the hard drive easier to access and to prevent loose debris from falling into the open hard drive port.

  4. Step 4

Locate the hard drive at the front edge of the notebook. It will look like a sliding corner slot, secured by one or two screws.

  5. Step 5

Remove the screws securing the hard drive very gently. Place them safely on a flat surface away from the notebook.

  6. Step 6

Use a flathead screwdriver to slightly pry to hard drive out of its slot. Then pull it gently the rest of the way out.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you will be leaving the port empty for more than a few minutes, cover it with tape or a rag to prevent any debris from falling in.
  • Be very careful and pull the hard drive straight out to prevent the bending of any pins within the hard drive port.
