Oxycodone is a pain-killing medication--often combined with acetaminophen--that is a powerful narcotic. Oxycodone is typically given after surgeries or accidents. Since oxycodone can be extremely habit-forming, a doctor will need to prescribe the medication so that it can be carefully monitored. Understanding the strength of the oxycodone you are taking is important, and the appearance of oxycodone depends on the individual strengths. Learn a simple guide to help you understand and identify oxycodone pills.

Inspect your pills to see if they resemble a 10-mg pill. The 10-mg pill is an oblong tablet. On one side of the tablet there is a "10" imprinted on it, and on the other side you can see the code "E797." This tablet is yellowish in color.

Inspect your pill to see if it looks like a 40-mg oxycodone pill. The 40-mg oxycodone tablet is carefully controlled and is a very powerful pain killer. It is peach in color, and is imprinted on both sides. One side has the code "E705" imprinted on it, and the other side has the number "40."

  5. Step 5

Look closely to see if your oxycodone resembles an 80-mg strength tablet. This is one of the most powerful oxycodone tablets you can take, and it is very carefully monitored by your doctor. It is extremely important to follow your doctor's instructions on how to take the oxycodone 80-mg tablet. It is a white tablet imprinted with "E 710" on one side and the number "80" on the other side.
