How to Make Shower Gel From Soap
Shower gel is preferred by many people over bar soap because of its mild cleansing action and skin-moisturizing qualities. Although many commercially prepared shower gels are available, they tend to be pricey. This shower gel is quick and easy to make, and you can purchase the glycerin and essential oils at your favorite local health food store. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Ivory soap bars
- ½ gallon distilled water
- 2 tbsp. glycerin
- 20 to 30 drops of your favorite essential oils (optional)
- Vegetable grater
- Heat-resistant glass jars with tight-fitting lids

Grate two or three bars of Ivory soap. You'll need two cups to make your shower gel.

Pour ½ gallon of distilled water into a heavy saucepan. Add the glycerin to the water and set the heat to medium-low.

Stir in the grated soap. Continue heating the mixture, stirring it occasionally to completely dissolve the soap. If the liquid seems too thick for your taste, simply add some more distilled water until you're satisfied with the consistency.

Add essential oils if you wish, and blend the shower gel mixture very well.

Pour the shower gel immediately into glass jars and cap them tightly. Store them in a cool location.
