Rubber stamped cards

Creating handmade Christmas cards with rubber stamps is an excellent holiday craft project for children and adults. Minimal artistic ability is required, just a desire to experiment with different stamps, colors and papers. With the large variety of stamps available, you may choose to make one design over and over again, or you can even make custom cards for each recipient. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Card stock---white and assorted colors
  • Christmas-themed rubber stamps

Instructions

    • 1

Fold white card stock in half and make a crease. Choose a colored sheet of card stock, and cut a rectangle with scissors or a paper cutter that is 1/2-inch smaller on each side than the folded white card. Attach this colored rectangle to the front of the card with double-sided tape.

    • 2

Choose a rubber stamp and ink pad color (or colors) to make the card. If the colored card stock is light, choose a dark ink pad. If the colored card stock is dark, choose a light ink pad, such as silver, gold or bronze.

    • 3

Stamp a design with the rubber stamps on the colored stock as desired. Let dry.

    • 4

If you make a mistake with the rubber stamp (sometimes the corner of the stamp prints by mistake if you press down too hard), attach an embellishment to cover the error using a hot glue gun. This will enhance the card and make it three-dimensional.

    • 5

With markers, write a Christmas greeting on the front of the card, if desired, and inside the card. Insert your finished card into an envelope, address and mail. (Check with the postal service to ensure you're using proper postage.)

Tips & Warnings

  • Before stamping with rubber stamps on the card, practice on plain paper first.

  • If a child is participating in this project, an adult should handle the hot glue gun.
