Step 1
Cleaning your boards with soap and hot water is the most-common method of cleaning cutting boards. Either let them air dry or pat them dry with a clean, dry towel. You can also clean nonporous acrylic, plastic or glass boards and solid wood boards in the dishwasher.
-
Step 2
An added measure to cleaning cutting boards is to make a solution of 1 tbsp. unscented liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gal. of hot water. Flood this solution onto the cutting board and let it stand for at least 30 minutes. Rinse off with clear hot water. After this, you can also let the board air dry or towel dry.

Step 3
There are always alternative cleaning methods, if you look for them. Another way to clean a cutting board is to sprinkle sea salt on it. Next, cut a fresh lemon in half and use the lemon to scrub the salt on the board. Lastly, rinse off the board. Lemon is a natural astringent and sanitizer. This method will take away any stains and leave a fresh, clean smell on the cutting board.

Step 4
Another natural method of cleaning cutting boards is to wash the boards with two different substances. First, wash with 3-percent hydrogen peroxide and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse. Next, wash the boards with white distilled vinegar, leave on for 10 minutes, and then rinse again.

Step 5
One last natural method of cleaning a cutting board is to make an antibacterial spray. Mix 10 drops of lavender essential oil with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle. Shake the bottle to mix the ingredients. Then spray the contents on the cutting board to clean. Do not rinse.
