Getting a lock pick set is as easy as 1-2-3. It can be as simple as looking in your own house for supplies if you're just learning. If you want a set that's more professional, you can also buy lock pick sets already organized for you. Here are some helpful electronic tips that will aid you in getting your own lock pick sets.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Household items: a bobby pin, a credit card, an Allen wrench, a screwdriver, a paperclip and a staple or
  • Visa or credit card number and Internet access or
  • Phone book and locksmith license

    Depending on Level of Expertise

  1. Step 1

Don't invest in equipment you won't know how to use just yet if you're a beginner. Obtain a 5-pin tumbling lock, which you can easily buy at any hardware store. Find the rest of the items in your home: a bobby pin, a credit card, an Allen wrench, a screwdriver, a paperclip and even a staple.

  2. Step 2

Buy online at major websites if you're experienced: lockpickset.net, lockpicks.com and lockpickshop.com. If you'd rather use online auction sites, Yahoo and Amazon sell lock pick sets too. Choose from a variety of options such as a set of auto jigglers, jackknife lock picks and lock pick combos.

  3. Step 3

If you're a professional and would rather buy in person, search the Yellow Pages under "Locksmiths' Equipment and Supplies." Find a locksmith supply warehouse near you. Be prepared for state and even company requirements, such as proving that you're a locksmith or showing a valid driver's license.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buying lock pick sets online is easy, immediate and will be less scrutinized.
  • Most states have laws about owning and possessing lock-picking sets. They may be considered "burglary tools," if you're not a licensed locksmith. Laws are different in every state.
