Railroad travel has been around since the early 1800s and has not become redundant with the advent of airplanes. In the United States, Amtrak offices nationwide railroad service and at times train travel may be more convenient than flying. Amtrak offers sleeper cars for long distance travel, and sleeper rooms have a capacity of up to four adults. Here are booking guidelines.

      Book your spot on the sleeper car when you make all your reservations for your trip with Amtrak.

      To make reservations with Amtrak, go to the "Reservations" page on the Amtrak website. See the Resources section for a link. An easy to use "Fare Finder" will help you book your tickets for the dates needed and within your price range.

      If you prefer to make Amtrak reservations via phone, call (800) USA-RAIL or (800) 872-7245.

      You may be able to upgrade to sleeper once on the train, if there is unsold space. The upgrade will of course cost some more money.
