Instructions

    • 1

Coat your frying pan with vegetable oil and place it on the stove to preheat. Set your heat setting on the stove to medium high.

    • 2

Place the ground beef into your frying pan to start it to brown. As it browns, make sure to stir the ground beef so it browns evenly with all of it contacting the cooking surface as you stir to reduce the browning time.

    • 3

Add the onions and the peppers to the ground beef and continue to brown them together to allow the flavors to intermingle as they cook. Do this for three to five minutes, and then drain any grease from the pot after that time.

    • 4

Pour two quarts of water into a pot and place it on the stove, turning the stove on high heat.

    • 5

Pour the jar of spaghetti sauce into the pot, and add the cinnamon as well. The cinnamon will give it a little touch of sweetness to counteract the flavor of the onion.

    • 6

Simmer the sauce, meat, and vegetable combination for 10 minutes. Add the pasta to the water, which should be boiling at this time. Continue to cook for the amount of time indicated on the box of pasta, as cooking times vary based on pasta and the brand.

    • 7

Drain the pasta after it is done cooking. Spoon pasta onto the plate and your vegetable hamburger spaghetti sauce over top of it. Top with mozzarella cheese if you wish.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to use hamburger that is only 20 percent fat or less, as this will reduce the amount of grease that you need to drain from the pot after browning the hamburger.

  • If you are using a very sweet spaghetti sauce for your dish, omit the cinnamon from the recipe or it will turn out overly sweet. Taste the sauce before adding the cinnamon to decide.
