By following these easy instructions, you will be able to successfully plant and maintain a mango tree.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • tree to plant
  • shovel
  • water
  • good quality soil
  • real manure
  1. Step 1

Choose a location for your tree that gets adequate sunlight and not near overhead power lines(mango trees can grow up to 40 feet) and dig a hole that is twice the size of the root ball of the tree to be planted. Check that the hole is deep enough to accommodate the root ball. The tree should sit level with the ground. It should not be either too deep or too shallow as this will affect its ability to grow.

  2. Step 2

Add good soil to the hole and the manure. Mix well and add water. Allow the water to drain.

  3. Step 3

Place the tree in the hole and continue to add soil and water to fill the hole. Tamp down the soil (with your feet or a board) as you go to get rid of air pockets. Mulch may be added once the hole is filled but no fertilizer. Water daily for the first week and then once a week for the next 2 months until the plant is established.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use good soil purchased form a nursery for best results.
  • Do not plant mango trees where temperatures fall below 32 degrees for extended periods of time.
