How to Make Organic Body Lotion
If you want to save money on body lotion or are concerned about chemicals in store brands, make your own organic formula. Ingredients such as aloe and beeswax will keep your skin smooth and healthy. You can also choose your own scent by adding essential oils. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Aloe vera plant
- 1 tsp. vitamin E oil
- 10 drops of lavender, lemon or patchouli essential oil
- 1 oz. cosmetic grade beeswax, grated or shaved
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- Red or green food coloring (optional)

Cut the lower leaves of the aloe plant. Remove enough leaves to yield 1 cup of aloe vera gel. Put the gel in a large mixing bowl.

Put the beeswax and vegetable oil into a double boiler. Heat the ingredients until the wax melts and the mixture is creamy.

Pour the beeswax-oil mixture into the bowl with the aloe. Add the vitamin E oil. Combine the ingredients with a handheld mixer.

Add in the essential oil and small drop of red food coloring, mixing all ingredients well.

Pour all ingredients into sterilized jars and keep them refrigerated for up to eight weeks.

There are many essential oils and you look up the best ones for your skin type if you would rather use a different one then stated in the recipe

Good recipe. I imagine that the vitamin e acts as a preservative but how much of it do you add to the recipe?
