How to List Your Skillset

Listing your skillset is important - especially for jobs that require specific skills.
Read below to find out how to list your skillset properly for the best chance of landing a job.

Instructions

1. Create a section on your resume called skills. If you have a lot of experience then the skillset section of your resume should be far down. If your skills are very impressive but you lack experience, list your skillset earlier in the resume (called a skill resume).

2. List skills in bullet-list format. Each skill should be listed with its own bullet point.
   The format should be:
   (bullet point) (skill)
   For example:
   * Management
   * Marketing
   * Accounting

   Depending on the skill, you might want to list details for each skill.
   In this case the format should be:
   (bulletpoint) (skill) - (details)
   For example:
   * Accounting - Quickbooks, Peachtree
   * Management - supervision of employees, product management, project planning

3. If you have a variety of skills in different categories, or if you are using a skill resume format, then you should create a few skill sections. For example, create one skillset section for your marekteing skills and another skillset section for management skills. Follow the steps in step 2 for each one.

4. If you want to know how to list your skillset for best results, you should create a different resume for each job you apply for. Each resume should highlight and detail a different list of skills. For example, if you do both programming and graphic design, if you are applying for a programming job, you will want to list the programming skills first in the most detail. If you are applying for a graphic design job you will want to list your graphic design skills first in more detail.
