Decide what you are going to be using your computer for. If you will be doing a lot of gaming, you should probably get a card that will support some of the newer games at decent resolutions. If you rarely game, you wont be needing a high end gaming card, and can go with a more budget card for everyday use.

In order to pick the right card, look online for benchmarks of the games you'll be playing. These benchmarking sites will use different resolutions and settings, so pay attention to what resolution your monitor displays at. Buying too powerful of a card is a waste of money.

Be aware of nVidia renaming and rebranding. Recently, nVidia has renamed several of their cards without changing performance in the least. If you buy one of these cards, you may actually be paying more money for an older card. I believe the GTS 250 is a rebranded 9800 gtx, but you may want to do the research for yourself. There are other rebranded cards as well.
