Facebook has emerged as a great networking tool. But it can be a little intimidating when you first start out. Here are a few tips to help you make friends quickly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Fill out as much information as you care to share about your occupation, location, hobbies, and where you went to school. The more information you have available, the easier it will be for other people on Facebook to find you.

  2. Step 2

Search for friends by using the top navigation bar that says "Home Profile Friends Inbox." Click on the "Friends" tab and then "Find Friends" drop down menu. Facebook will offer up suggestions of people you may know based on the information you filled out (such as occupation, location, schooling, etc.) You can also enter email addresses of your friends to see if there are already on Facebook. Lastly, you can use the "Search for Friends" at the bottom using their name, or click on one of the suggested Facebook links. The links will take you to people you may know through school or work.

Once you identify a few friends to start out, Facebook will begin generating suggestions to help you find others.

  3. Step 3

Comment on links and photos that people post. By becoming actively involved in Facebook, new friends will emerge and want to have a dialog with you.

  4. Step 4

Post your own photos, and invite a friend or two who isn't currently using Facebook. Once your friend sees what kind of information is being shared, he or she may want to join.

  5. Step 5

Put a Facebook badge on your website or blog. To do this, click on the home page (with your name at the top right). You will see a "Create a profile badge" link at the bottom left of the screen. Click the blue "create a badge" button on the bottom left of the screen. Facebook provides options a photo badge (which allows users to see the latest pictures you've posted), signature badge (which provides contact information), or a blog badge. You have the option to create a horizontal or vertical badge. Choose whichever will fit on your website or blog.

Once you have your badge posted, visitors to your site will know you are on Facebook and seek you out for friendship.

  6. Step 6

Continually update your Facebook page with useful, fun, and creative information. This will continually draw new Facebook users in to your page. The more active you are on Facebook, the more friends you will naturally gain.
