Step 1
Call your local high school and see if they are willing to accept a foreign exchange student for the following year. Some times they have a maximum number of foreign exchange students they would be willing to host. It's best to know this before continuing.
-
Step 2
If they are willing to host a foreign exchange student for the upcoming year ask if their are any particular organizations they work with or don't work with. There are dozens of organizations that help place foreign exchange students, and some schools are preferential to certain ones.
-
Step 3
Contact one of the organizations the school approves of and tell them you are interested in hosting a foreign exchange student. They will often call or email you to learn more about you.
-
Step 4
Be prepared to tell the placement organization about your family and your hobbies. This will help them set you up with a compatible foreign exchange student. They will also explain what they expect from you as the host.
-
Step 5
Next you will likely be given a number of student profiles to look at. If you see a student you are interested in hosting tell them. If you don't ask for more profiles of the potential exchange students until you find one.
-
Step 6
Next most foreign exchange placement organization like to have a face to face sit down meeting in your home. It will be similar to the over the phone interview but more in depth. They will also ask you to contact the prospective student that you will be hosting and their family.
-
Step 7
If you, the exchange student, and their family all agree to the hosting arrangement the foreign exchange student will be arriving in August.
