Step 1
Take inventory. You may make more money selling gold jewelry as is. For example, if you inherited a high quality piece but it's simply not your taste, you may yield a nice profit if you sold the jewelry intact. Other pieces, like old school rings, or that ugly gold necklace your ex-boyfriend gave you for Christmas, have little retail value and are probably better off sold as scrap.

Step 2
To make money selling gold jewelry, go directly to a jewelry store. Ask to speak to a manager or owner and ask if they would be interested in buying your jewelry. If so, ask if they would be willing to write down their best price. Then go to another jewelry store and do the same, until you find a store who will give you their best price. Try to stay away from pawnshops, as they will never give you a fair price.

Step 3
To make money selling gold jewelry as scrap, there are several places where you can send them your gold pieces and they, in return, will send you money for the gold. Just be aware that when you do this, you are paying a lot for convenience and they will take a hefty percentage of what the gold is worth. If you do go this route, make sure you choose a reputable company, take a picture of the item you send, and make sure there is some way to track the item once it is sent through the mail.

on 8/29/2009 The very best online place I have found is the Silver and Gold Exchange. I appreciate the fact that they do not play games like the others and show what they pay per gram at their site at www.SilverAndGoldExchange.com They also make sure you are happy with their offer before they send out a check. They took very good care of me and I would like to recommend them.
