Embroider a Fly Stitch- Quilting

The Fly Stitch is an easy stitch that can be used in a lot of different ways

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Embroider Thread
  • Embroider Needle
  • Material that you want to apply stitch to
  1. Step 1

There are many variations of stitches you can make to decorate a garment or a quilt that you are making. The fly stitich is used on many quilts for decorating making leaves and if you want you can make the tacking stitch in brown if you do the fly stitch part in green to where it looks similar to a leaf. I have other stitches and directions for a cathedral quilt on here as well if you are interested in learning how to do them. Here is a simple fly stitch examples.

  2. Step 2

Bring needle through material from the back as shown in picture.

  3. Step 3

Take your needle and move across as shown in the picture leaving a little the thread a little loose so you can bring it down some to add the final stitch.

  4. Step 4

In the center to create the "v" come up from the back and do a small stitch to hold the "v" in place.

  5. Step 5

Make a small tacking stitch to hold in place and you have your fly stitch.
