Step 1
The first step you should take is to clear your mind. Take a deep breath exhale slow and relax. If you are tense you might not have the patience at that moment to focus on what you want to draw. Remember drawing is an art and the best art comes from raw emotion. I am not telling you to relax and forget your emotion. i am telling you to relax so you can hone in on your emotions and draw what you feel. If you want to draw a flower and you are upset the drawing of the flower should reflect that emotion and if you art happy the drawing should reflect that also. Drawing is an extension of your emotions.

Step 2
The second thing you should do is stop worrying about what the drawing is going to look like. As you practice your drawings will get better. Stop thinking of your drawings as a drawing and start thinking of them as art. This will help you focus on you emotions and in turn create art from your raw emotions. Once you can do this you will start to see the beauty of your drawings regardless what it is or looks like. Then you will also see your technique improve. Practice is the key but practice with out inhibitions. In other words stop worrying about what your drawing looks like and start focusing on what your art feels like.

Step 3
The third thing you should do is find your space to create art. The spot you chose to draw your artistic drawings will lend so many ideas and enhance so many feelings. This spot can be filled with positive feelings of beauty and joy but also negative feelings of ugliness and pain. It will be your spot and will hold your past, present, and future ideas and feelings. this will all translate to strong artistic drawings pieces of art derived from your raw emotions. It will not matter what it looks like because is it consumed with what the artist feels like.

on 4/8/2009 Good advice. I paint and it is amazing when the painting morphs into something beautiful but different than the original intention. 5*

on 4/8/2009 Great tips on how to draw. I especially like your statement about not warring about what it will look like.
