Step 1
**Debts owed**
Make a list of all your credit cards debts. Confront the problem head-on instead of living in fear and frustration. The credit card company is going to keep sending you bills so you need a plan to deal with this financial issue. -
Step 2
**Develop a game plan**
Once you have a list of all the credit cards, calculate the total amount owed. Let's say you owe $5,000 on all your credit cards. You goal is to find a 0% interest credit card and consolidate all the other cards onto that one card. -
Step 3
**What to say**
When calling credit card companies, always speak slowly and respectfully. If you are emotional and angry, you will not get anywhere. Treat this like a business negotiation. Ask if they have any 0% interest credit cards available. -
Step 4
**Be patient**
Shop around and find out what is available. Do not apply for the first credit card company that makes an offer. Let them know that you are interested, but you will get back to them. If you have any offers from the mailbox, call those companies first. -
Step 5
**Consolidation**
Once you select a card, combine the balances and find extra money in your budget to pay the card down fast. Mow lawns, move furniture, babysit, build websites and walk dogs. Take 2-3 extra part-time jobs to increase the payment towards this card. Pay it off and move on with your life.
