There are many ways to get help with the groceries for people with low or no income. These are some ideas and resources on how to get free food assistance and on how to find local food banks.

Make an assessment of your financial condition. Determine the monthly amounts for your expenses and for your income. Depending on the income level, you may be eligible to get food assistance from various sources.

Start with the government's Food Assistance Program. Visit the internet site Food and Nutrition Service or fns.usda.gov. The food program provides help for low income and no income families. There is an Emergency Food Assistance program; learn about the requirements on this site.

Find your State Food Assistance program. Most states have a food program that is run by their Social Service department. Search for "food stamp" or "food assistance" with the name of your state to find the local program.

Use Non Profit organization's food banks to get free groceries and donations:
Go to Catholic Charities to get food assistance. Visit their site catholicchariritesusa.org and click on the "Get Help" tab to find a local office.
The program offers free food assistance.Visit the Salvation Army.org internet site. Search for 'Food Bank" and find the local food assistance offices.
Look for Feeding America.org to get free food. Find the "Find a Bank" tab and search for a local food bank in the database.

Find a food bank or food pantry list at Pantry Net.org. Enter your state in the database to find pantries in your area.
Local supermarkets sometimes donate to food banks and they may have a list of food banks as well.
