Step 1
ACCENTUATE THE FACE - The clothing of teenage girls should frame the face. Everyone should be looking at her face. That is the place that should get the most attention. Not other parts of the body. Buy clothing that accentuates the face and draws looks upward toward the face. Cute blouses or dresses with a collar or ruffle on or near the neck work well.
-
Step 2
COVER ALL APPROPRIATE PLACES - Teenage girls should not be showing any amount of cleavage. Stomachs, belly buttons, under garments and rears should all be covered. Skirts and shorts should not be shorter than finger tip length. That means that when standing with her hands at her sides, the skirt is just as long as where the tips of her fingers lay, no shorter. The reason I say shorts as well is because if shorts are not long enough, other things can possibly be seen when she is sitting or climbing in to a vehicle, etc.
-
Step 3
APPROPRIATE FITTING - Make sure that all of your teen girls clothing fits appropriately. Not too tight and not too loose.
-
Step 4
THINGS NOT TO WEAR - Do not allow your teen to wear clothing with words written across her tushy. This brings inappropriate attention to an area that you do not want attention. Do not allow your teen girl to wear thong underwear. It may move around and start showing.
-
Step 5
PARENTS TIPS - The first excuse that I hear from parents is that they cannot find appropriate clothing. The only thing available is inappropriate clothing. What are they to do if that is all that is sold at the major department stores? The answer is open your eyes and look. You can find jeans that go up to the waist, blouses that show no cleavage, regular underwear, shorts and skirts that are finger tip length and beautiful dresses at every store that also has the latest fashion. You just need to look. If you still can't find what you are looking for, try a different store or the internet. I know it is not easy, but your teen girl will really appreciate it when she is older.

on 11/21/2009 akumaxkami is right. You should not, EVER buy any clothing for your teenage daughter without her consent. She'll just rebel against you later on. Go shopping with her, make sure her clothes don't show anything, and you'll be fine. Don't over complicate things.
And, btw, most teenage girls would rather die than wear a ruffle-collared shirt.

on 8/8/2009 You seem to forget that this teen girl is a sentient human being who should be allowed to express herself however she wants.
Granted, you're the parent, but is it really right to pick and choose clothing for at random without her consultation?
Why not take the middle road, go shopping with your teen and tell her what you think would suit her and what is simply inappropriate.
Then...your daughter will thank you later.
