Things You'll Need:
- Video camera with Night Vision.
- Shovel.
- Pulley System.
- Net that can hold 750 lbs.
- Rope that can hold 750 lbs.
- Meat for bait.
- Camera.
- Journal to record data.
-
Step 1
RECON-Before capturing Bigfoot, you will need to do a little reconnaisance work. Visit areas that have had several known Bigfoot sightings like Paris, Texas; the Four Corners region of the Southwest; Del Norte County, California; and Washington state. He’s not overly fond of the recent human migration, so you will need to go into the forests. Look for large footprints, highly broken tree limbs, or ape-like hair in unusual places.
-
Step 2
SET UP CAMERAS WITH NIGHT VISION-Once you have found areas that are possible Bigfoot haunts, mount cameras that are specially made to film high resolution footage in low light settings. You will either need to mount several in different locations or move it around every few days. During the day, review the footage.
-
Step 3
MARK THE AREA-Did you see something that might be Bigfoot? Mark this place. This is where you will build your trap.
-
Step 4
BUILD THE TRAP-Dig a hole at least 15 feet deep and 8 feet wide. The sides of the hole should be steep so as that Bigfoot cannot climb out by himself once he is inside. Cover the hole with a net that is capable of lifting 750 pounds. You might need to weigh each of the corners down with a heavy rock or tree limb. (Most people believe that a full grown, adult male weights about 500 pounds, but yours might have just had a large meal. Better safe than sorry.) Attach a pulley system to a strong limb above the hole. Attach a heavy duty rope to each of the four corners of the net and then rig up these ropes to the pulley system. (Each pulley system is different, so read the directions on the pulley kit you purchase.) Carefully cover the hole and net with a thick layer of leaves.
-
Step 5
BAIT THE TRAP-About 12 feet above the hole, bait the Bigfoot trap with a small deer or haunch of beef. Previous sightings put him at 6-10 feet. If your camera footage put him a little on the short side, you may want to lower the height of the meat. They are also known to eat nuts, berries, and other forms of vegetation but are more likely to go after the carcass.
-
Step 6
WAIT UNTIL DARK-Bigfoot is believed to be mainly nocturnal, so you will most likely have to wait until nightfall in order to capture him. They are believed to have excellent hearing and a sense of smell, so you might want to rub yourself in berries, leaves, or other things to disguise your scent. Remember to be quiet… else you might scare him off. If you do not catch him the first night, try again the next.
-
Step 7
WHOO HOO! YOU CAUGHT HIM-Once your Sasquatch is caught in the hole, use the pulley system to lift him out. The net will keep him safely in place. Tie the dangling end of rope to a strong tree nearby to keep him off the ground.
-
Step 8
GATHER EVIDENCE-Wait until daylight. Your Bigfoot will be ok in the trap for a few hours. Take both video and photos of your find in full light. Take casts and several photos of any footprints on the ground. Don’t forget to get several angles on all shots. Look for any stray fur that he might have shed. Gather any fecal droppings. (Beware, it will not smell good. They are known for smelling worse than skunks.)
-
Step 9
LET HIM GO-After you are done gathering evidence and taking photos, let him go by gently lowing the net to the ground. Quickly climb a tree while he is untangling himself from the net. Film all that you can of this so scientists can later study his fine and gross motor skills. Bigfoots do not like daylight, so you should be safe. He will run away once loose.
-
Step 10
CLEAN UP-Leave the woods as you left them. Fill the hole back in and take down the pulley system. After all, you do not want another Sasquatch to become ensnared when no one is around to set him free. Also check the nets for any fur that might have become caught in the ropes. Scientists will be able to use this for DNA testing.
-
Step 11
REPORT THE EVIDENCE-Once you have gathered your evidence, report it to The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO). See link below. A volunteer researcher will contact you, and your evidence may be posted in their online database.
-
Step 12
GOOD LUCK!

on 8/6/2009 Now, why can't all the scientists and researchers that have been looking all over the world for him figure out a great plan like yours? And thanks for putting LET HIM GO and CLEAN UP into your list of steps! 5*

on 6/18/2009 Now this was a fun read. I like the catch and release after I take the pulley out of my back pocket...
