Step 1
Basil does well when it is watered sparingly, but frequently. For example, you can water your basil nearly every day, just be sure not to over saturate the herb plant. Make sure the soil it is in drains well.
-
Step 2
This herb thrives with a little sunshine. When you leave it in the sunlight, be sure to rotate it so that each side gets equal light and warmth. If you don’t, the basil will quickly start growing in the direction of the sun. Frequent rotation of your herb garden will ensure that your plant grows straight and tall.
-
Step 3
As the larger leaves begin to age, you can pull them from the plant in order to use them for seasoning. Don’t worry, this is a rapid growing herb; there will be plenty of leaves to go around!
-
Step 4
You can crush the fresh basil leaves and use them in a dish, or, you can hang them to dry for a different flavor and a later use. Hung in a cool, dry place, the basil leaf takes about a week to dry, and will crumble easily.
