Sewing a Hem on Acrylic Fabric

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sharp Pins
  • Needle
  • Matching Thread
  • Sewing Machine
  • Tape measure
  • Cool Iron
  1. Step 1

Measure Fabric for how long you want it to be for instance if it is a shirt or dress - measure how long you want and leave an extra inch for the hem.
Turn hem up inside one time and press with a light iron. If you cannot press pin up. Turn material up one more time 1/2" to make the hem total one inch.

  2. Step 2

Pin in place with sharp pins every inch or so.
Three ways to sew up hem/
    1. By hand with needle and thread. Just catch a little of the good material and use most of thread on inside where you cannot see stitching.
    2. With a sewing machine that has blind hem. Catches good material every 7th stitch. Fold on inside and sew on machine from inside.
    3. Sew straight across and you will see a straight line all the way around.

  3. Step 3

Turn over and press with cool iron.

Acrylic material is very popular now. Lots of sporting goods clothes are made with acrylic and are made out of very good quality materials

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure thread is same color as background of material.
