Absinthe Cocktail
Absinthe Cocktail

Now that Absinthe has been legalized in the U.S. here is a typical recipe for serving the liquor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 oz Absinthe
  • 1 1/2 oz Water
  • Dash bitters
  • Dash sugar syrup
  • Chilled rocks glass
  • Mixing glass
  • Ice
  • Absinthe spoon & sugar cube are optional
  1. Step 1

Fill your mixing glass with ice and combine 1 1/2 oz of Absinthe, 1 1/2 oz of water, dash of bitters (to taste) and dash of sugar syrup (corn syrup or Karo syrup) **The Absinthe that is for sale in the U.S. now is not as potent as it once was, where it got the nickname "Green Fairy" for being a hallucinagen.

  2. Step 2

Shake the mixture until well blended or about 10 seconds. Do not leave mixture to sit with ice or the cocktail will become watered down. Strain drink into medium sized rocks glass. The cocktail will be green in color, almost opaque.

  3. Step 3

Traditionally the Absinthe cocktail is made by pouring cold water over an Absinthe spoon & sugar cube, releasing flavors and aromas. In this cocktail the sugar syrup will take place of the spoon, but you can still use one for garnish & decoration.

  4. Step 4

    Drink responsibly and Enjoy!

on 4/15/2009 I've never tried this but have heard some really wild stories about it! Like anything, it's up to us to chose how much or how little we get into something!
