Things You'll Need:
- Clothes
- Bags
- Laundry Detergent
-
Step 1
Look through your closets and drawers. Pull out everything that you don't think you will wear again. You may have changed your style, gained or lost weight or simply just be in a giving mood. Whatever the reason, start gathering those clothes. Don't leave out shoes, accessories, and linens.
-
Step 2
Sort through your clothes and shoes. Remember what you would want. Don't give away clothes with holes that can't be repaired or faded clothing. Wash and dry all clothes. You don't want to give anybody soiled clothing. If you are giving away suits or business wear, talk to local dry cleaning companies about discounts on cleaning dry clean only garments. They may work out a deal because the items will be donated to charity.
-
Step 3
Locate your local shelter or donation center. Most cities have a Goodwill or Salvation Army. You can also donate to local children protective agencies if you have children's clothing. The most important thing is to give. Especially during the recession, anybody could need help.
-
Step 4
Bag up everything and drop them off. Donations are tax deductible and many agencies will provide a receipt that day. Hold on to the receipt for tax time.
