How to make yummy Cherry Cereal Jumbles

This is a cookie that my grandmother used to make with me, as a little girl and this is how to make it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/3 Cup shortening
  • 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Large egg, well beaten
  • 1 1/2 TBSP milk
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 Cups corn flakes, crushed
  • 1 Jar Marachino Cherries
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowls
  • Stirring Utensils
  • Baking sheet
  1. Step 1

    Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Cream together shortening and sugar, until light and fluffy.

  3. Step 3

    Then add the beaten egg and the milk, mix thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

    In a seperate bowl sift together, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

  5. Step 5

    In 3rds, add the flour mixture to the shortening, sugar mixture, mixing inbetween each addition, until well combined.

  6. Step 6

    Now add the vanilla extract and mix thoroughly. Dough will be thick.

  7. Step 7

    Crush the cornflakes and place in a bowl.

  8. Step 8

    Drop the cookie dough from a spoon, into the cornflakes, coating the dough completely with the cornflakes and forming it into a ball.

  9. Step 9

    Place the rolled cookie, onto the ungreased baking sheet, 3 inches apart from each other.

  10. Step 10

    Take the maraschino cherries and cut them in half, place the halfs, into the center of each of the rolled cookies.

  11. Step 11

    Repeat steps 8 through 10 until all the dough is used.

  12. Step 12

    Bake cookies at 350 for approximately 12 minutes. Allow to cool and enjoy.

  13. Step 13

Tips & Warnings
  • You can crush the cornflakes in a plastic bag, with a rolling pin, if this makes it easier.
  • Outside of the cookie will be a golden brown, when done.
  • Oven temps and time may vary, so check and change the temp of the oven if necessary.
